Residential aged care is for senior Australians who can no longer live independently at home. Residential aged care provides, accommodation and personalised care 24 hours a day, supporting residents in their health and wellbeing needs. Alongside enabling residents to maintain their independence as much as possible, residential aged care provides assistance with continence management, mobility, medication administration and more.
Legislation requires that entry into residential aged care is on a needs basis and assessment is required. This assessment is conducted by an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT). These teams are attached to all the major public hospitals and you can self-refer through the My Aged Care Portal.
Anglicare charges amounts in accordance with the Aged Care Act 1997. This includes a Basic Daily Care Fee, Means Tested Fee and an Accommodation Payment or Contribution. Further details can be found here.
The range of care and services vary according to the needs of the resident. For all residents however, the following are provided:
All of Anglicare’s homes are designed to support residents living with dementia through our memory support units. All our memory support care provides respect, dignity and inclusion while maintaining care that is current and evidence based. Throughout our wider organisation, specialist staff, researchers and chaplains work together to better understand the needs of people living with dementia so we can care in the ways that best support them and their families.
Some homes may have an aviary or aquarium in common areas for residents to enjoy. However, due to the nature of the home, personal pets are not permitted to be kept in the home. In some facilities, pets are allowed to visit.
In some cases, a resident’s care needs may increase over time. So far, as is possible, we aim to minimise the need for a resident to move to another room in these circumstances.
