Anglicare’s latest aged care home, Melva McDonald Lodge, will be officially opened by the Anglican Archbishop of Sydney on Wednesday 20 March.
Named after a well-known and much-loved resident of Rooty Hill from the 1930s, the three storey, 90-bed facility located at 11 Mavis Street, Rooty Hill, has been designed to provide for older persons experiencing the impacts of dementia, with all the modern comforts of home. Flat screen wall mounted TVs, reverse-cycle air conditioning, individual ensuites are just some of the features that have been included.
“Melva McDonald Lodge has been designed to encourage our residents to maintain their independence as well as their connection with the local community. We want the Lodge to be a friendly environment with space for residents to enjoy with their visitors,” says Grant Millard, Anglicare CEO.
The Lodge is close to mixed retail shops, Rooty Hill railway station, and the M4-M7 motorway junction allowing for easy travel from any areas of Sydney and beyond. As the new gardens around the home mature, they will provide shady areas for residents to relax and enjoy. There is also a children’s playground for friends and family.
Anglicare has employed a wide range of specialists to care for the residents’ needs, including physiotherapists; occupational therapists; nutritionists; dementia, mental health and palliative care nurse consultants; chaplains; and pastoral carers.
“Melva McDonald Lodge is a modern, well designed aged care residence, but it is our care that will make it a real home for our residents. Our experienced Clinical team assist residents’ health needs, and our Lifestyle team arrange daily activities and regular outings for those who wish it,” says Mr Millard.
“Anglicare aims to provide individualised person-centred care, seeing everyone as valuable to God, and treating them with dignity and respect.”
