One in four women and one in 13 men will be impacted by domestic violence in their lifetime, and Anglicare is concerned to make sure that our employees are able to access support if they need it.
On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Anglicare is pleased to launch their Domestic Violence Workplace Response.
“We can’t ignore the fact that in a large workplace, there could be people who are experiencing domestic violence,” said Anglicare CEO Grant Millard at the launch.
“While the workplace may provide a temporary reprieve for people experiencing domestic violence, it can still follow them to work – through abusive and threatening phone calls and texts, through injuries, stress and worry, and impact their ability to do work well. Anglicare cares about all our employees and we are committed to supporting the safety and wellbeing of all staff, and promoting healthy family relationships.”
The Domestic Violence Workplace Response builds on the work we are already doing with churches and community groups to address this issue, encouraging all Anglicare staff and volunteers to understand what domestic violence is and where to get help.
“Domestic violence is a serious problem Australia-wide. We want to help those impacted by domestic violence to identify what is happening to them. And we want to equip Anglicare staff to listen to and believe victims who come to them with stories of abuse. The new Domestic Violence Workplace Response will help us all respond appropriately to domestic violence where we see it happening and point people towards support and safety,” says Lynda Dunstan, Family and Domestic Violence Advisor for Anglicare Sydney.
Anglicare Sydney and our Employee Assistance Program provides counselling services for those who are or have been living with domestic violence. We will also support those who wish to address their ow use of violence by providing referrals to appropriate services. And we are able to refer people on to frontline service providers for further help.
